- A family tree, recorded on the back of a 1950 election ballot by William
Haynes Kelley, showed her name as Mahala Eliza Mays. A photograph
from William Haynes and Ida Millar Kelley showed a man and woman and
on the back was noted "J. W. & Eliza Kelley, mother of Cott C. Kelley,
Walter P. Kelley and Mittee Kelley Pepper". W. H. Kelley, Jr. has a copy of
that photo.
- The National Academy biographical memoir of Walter P. Kelley (Biographical Memoirs, vol. XL, Columbia University Press, 1969) states his wife's name as Mary Eliza (Mayes) Kelley.
