According to the Brown Manuscripts in Simpson Co. Archives: John Kelley Sr. came from Scotland though of Irish descent. John Kelley Sr. came from Scotland with David Kelley and James Kelley and all 3 settled in North Carolina on Yadkin River. John Sr. moved to Simpson County, KY, David to Wilson County, TN, and James to or near Lexington, KY.
